Chronic Lyme Disease Treatment

Banner Graphic

Lyme disease is an infectious disease caused by Borrelia bacteria, which is transmitted by tick bites.

A growing number of Australians are experiencing chronic illness following tick bites. However, the Australian Government says that Lyme disease cannot be contracted in Australia, as they believe the Borrelia bacteria doesn’t exist here. Unless you’ve travelled overseas, doctors will not test for Lyme disease, even if you have a bullseye rash — the most common symptom of Lyme disease.

If left untreated, the infection can spread to your joints and nervous system, so it’s crucial to get treatment as soon as you start noticing the symptoms. If you notice a bullseye rash in the area you’ve been bitten, contact our health practitioners as soon as possible.

At Merge, we prioritise the urgent treatment of acute Lyme disease with our Tick Bite First Aid appointments, available either in person or online. These appointments ensure you receive herbal antimicrobials straight away to swiftly address the infection.

In addition to this immediate intervention, our holistic treatments for early-stage Lyme disease focus on supporting your body’s natural healing process and bolstering your immune system while alleviating symptoms. We provide nutrition plans and recommend complementary supplements to enhance immune function and facilitate your body’s natural detoxification process, aiding in the elimination of toxins released by the infection.

Bull’s-eye rash

This rash often appears within 3–30 days after a tick bite and is a hallmark sign of Lyme disease. It starts as a red, expanding rash that resembles a bull’s-eye, with a central red spot surrounded by a clear area and an outer ring of redness.

Fatigue

Persistent fatigue is a common symptom of Lyme disease and can significantly impact daily activities and quality of life. It may be accompanied by feelings of weakness or exhaustion, even after adequate rest.

Flu-like symptoms

Early stage Lyme disease may result in flu-like symptoms such as fever, chills, headache, muscle aches and joint pain. These symptoms can mimic those of other viral infections and can lead to a misdiagnosis if not recognised as signs of Lyme disease.

Neurological symptoms

Headaches, dizziness, numbness or tingling, facial paralysis and cognitive difficulties are relatively common but may vary depending on the stage and severity of the disease.
